A Spring Festival Opera Gala, titled "Flourishing Garden • Drama Gathering in Haifeng," was held on February 13 at the Haifeng County Theater in Shanwei City, south China's Guangdong Province.
The event brought together three rare national-level operas native to the Hailufeng region (Haifeng and Lufeng)—Zhengzi Opera(正字戏), Xiqin Opera(西秦戏), and Baizi Opera(白字戏)—all acclaimed as "living fossils of Chinese opera." Joining them were five other prestigious styles: KunquOpera(昆曲), YuejuOpera(粤剧), ChaojuOpera(潮剧), HanjuOpera(汉剧), and Huazhaoxi Opera(花朝戏).
The gala featured classic repertoire performed by veteran, mid-career, and young artists, showcasing unique local vocal techniques and acrobatic skills like "armchair kung fu." The eight troupes shared the stage, presenting a perse tapestry of Chinese theatrical arts. The evening celebrated local traditions while fostering cross-regional cultural dialogue, enriching the Spring Festival holiday with a vibrant display of intangible cultural heritage.
